Laura Wolf is a vocalist, cellist and producer. She composes and performs under various aliases across genres, ranging from contemporary-classical to electronic and rock.
With roots in classical cello and voice, Laura earned a B.M in Opera Performance from Northwestern University. After graduating she became obsessed with audio production and transformed her practice from one of interpretation to one of agency and creation.
As a producer and composer, Laura’s practice is a laboratory for disassembly and reintegration. She explores embodiment and is interested in how grid-based cerebral precision and intuitive sound can co-exist.
Of her EP Shelf Life (2023), Bob Boilen (NPR Music All Songs Considered) called her a “classical musician in love with sound manipulations… she learned to master the art of bedroom recording”. In her live performances, a visual as much as an auditory experience, she blends analog and digital experimentalism with her cello, voice and computer.
With her extensive background in performance and studio production, Laura is a sought after collaborator. While her solo albums embrace playful sound design and orchestral fragments, the throughline across Laura’s various musical aliases and collaborations is her lighter-than-air vocals and infectious melodic instinct.
“Lilts”, her shoe-gaze project alongside John Ross (Wild Pink), released their EP “Waiting Around” (Better Company Records, 2023) to critical acclaim, deemed “your new favorite duo” (Paste), with praise for Laura’s “soft yet powerful” (Stereogum) vocals.
Other collaborations include her 2024 EP ‘Signals’ alongside Feverkin, and forthcoming releases with J.G Thirlwell. Her compositions and cello playing can be heard in commercials by Proctor & Gamble and Soundtoys.
Laura’s solo debut LP will be released in early 2026. Since 2019, Laura has hosted Acupuncture Sound-Baths across NYC. In response to the surgical precision of her namesake project, these experiences thrive on communal improvisation and are evolving into a recording project, “Music for Body, Cello and Electricity”.
In addition to her daily composition and production practice, Laura teaches voice and electronic production in private and in workshop settings.
